When Leaves Die

When Leaves Cry

For a season or two they brightly glow with color, glorious, rustling soft in the wind, offering shade and soothing sound even in furious winds. Hiding small birds trilling away, clinging to branches, feeding their young… alive with insects and earthy smells handing on tight to strong branches. Then in the end they weep with out their color and fall to the earth like the tears of a lost lover. In death they are burned or swept by the wind, replaced in spring and again it begins all over.

Contemplation: Acceptance

No, it’s not the journey we fear the most, it’s a combination of who will try to take advantage of them, what parts might be dangerous, whether someone will be there to lend a hand… and finally, the truth of that giant pain in the chest is whether they will ever find themselves back this way that brings it on.

Sad feels so much stronger than happy. Some paths we get to travel with our children, and there are other paths where they must trek it alone. All we can do is give the only guidance we have  soaked up in this life and hope they absorb it as we watch them go it on their own.

Exciting yet uncharted territory. Trust and fear work hard against each other and make a bittersweet soup.

I will keep the lights on and wait. There is no such thing as failure, we are exactly where we are supposed to be and though sometimes the lessons feel useless, wisdom writes a different resume.

My Sunrise Poem https://artiststouch4u.com/?p=616 Thu, 04 Mar 2021 04:18:04 +0000 http://artiststouch4u.com/?p=616 ©️2020CCOLBERT

And so the sun peeked from its bed, though it could never sneak, to overtake the darkness as the moon gave up its seat.

From just the edge it lit the thin horizon to the heights, causing a prism beamed effect of blue, pink, yellow golden light.

The morning broke the birds alert “it’s past the time now wake, from slumbering in your cozy nests, the work is set to start.”

The animals crawl from their dens and places where they slept, while humans lay in waking sleep and rise up from their beds.

‘Tis nature that’s more powerful than simple human might, ‘cause nature doth control the cycle that man craves to disrupt.

You cannot set the stars in place or stop the rising sun, but you can make a mess of all things beautiful, under the sun.

You won’t respect what you have done, once birds you cease to hear, or soil, though once fertile, only stunted growth will bear.

So wake up to each fresh new day determined to preserve…

The beauty in the sunrise and the colors of the earth.

Infinity https://artiststouch4u.com/?p=507 Tue, 19 May 2020 04:12:28 +0000 http://artiststouch4u.com/?p=507 I remember that day… I looked in your eyes and saw through to infinity. The queen was in the cards she said you’re in love and beauty is I. Your soul. You rose and keep you rising. Chase your dreams. Hold onto hope… go on.

Room For Rent https://artiststouch4u.com/?p=495 Tue, 19 May 2020 02:44:04 +0000 http://artiststouch4u.com/?p=495 ©️2020 CColbert

It’s a quiet place, serene and clean with a view beyond, out to the shore.

Catch the morning sun, on the eastern side, where birds chat with squirrels and flowers bloom.

In the western hall, the stove is hot baking sweet-ass cake… she fills jelly pots, with spiced fig chutney, cooked down from fresh fruit that she picked herself, while in slumber you snoozed.

The lady makes songs with verse and truth of the life she’s lived and the lessons learned.

If you pass on through to the “quiet” room, smell the leather books and the incense burn. Countless rainbows dance on the walls from a collection of crystals hanging from curtain rods.

She craves to create, its an extension of self, from the garden, to paper, and the music she sings its a snapshot in time, she records her life, a legacy she’ll leave behind.

She appreciates love, and things that please the pallet, souls who capture her senses, she craves art and perspective under one condition, and only this, it’s conveyed through strength of a natural heart. Meaning things that are real and not made up.

If you sleep till noon she’ll greet you on the deck, with luncheon laid out and a apéritif. Lively conversation you won’t forget but later then, you sure have a nap, in the afternoon with scent from her garden and occasional buzz of honey bees.

Then she’ll dress you in line crisp ironed shirts that smell like the breeze with a hint of perfume…

It’s an amazing space for a permanent renter, who must rightly commit to be the faithful caretaker, of all things that make her uniquely her… especially the vacant room… in her heart.

Reflection https://artiststouch4u.com/?p=451 Sun, 10 May 2020 02:00:40 +0000 http://artiststouch4u.com/?p=451 ©️2020 CColbert

Inside you’re tall, you reach for the sky but they don’t get to see that, only what’s outside. Emotions raw, your heart is swollen, your breathing so fast it sounds like the waves.

Sealed in a cocoon for several long days, you felt at home with the depth and space of an empty room, all packed and ready, yet sad feelings crept in, it changed your face.

You don’t like goodbyes that’s why you hide. No feeling sad, you don’t have to cry. The reflection you see doesn’t match what’s inside, oh, how the Devil laughs when he sees you cry.

He stole your joy, extinguished the light, spent countless hours reminding at night. You’re exhausted and wish rest would come again, like yesterday when your thoughts were clear.

Try to hold on, unload the anguish that screams in your head while you crave a new story, but this one is yours the cold reflection it certianly does not match what’s inside.

Thank your friends, battle buddies for life… hope to be present in the picture, next time. You want to get better, handle, move on, disappear in the positive that exists out there.

They pray for your soul, say one in return, and hope that one day you will meet once again.

Meet Me in Spring https://artiststouch4u.com/?p=370 Sat, 09 May 2020 19:18:51 +0000 http://artiststouch4u.com/?p=370 ©️2020 CColbert

I saw you last out by the river with the wind in our hair and the sun on our skin. We ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, on white Wonder bread without the crust.  Our conversation glided from childhood to then, it was early enough to be minus all of this. We talked about our passions and memories,  but mostly how we’d cook our fish and bait up tomorrow.

It was a bountiful day and later campfires, burned with a smoky flavor of mesquite wood. Dinner sizzled in a hot skillet over glowing coals we couldn’t live higher if we wanted to, back then. We were scarlet-clad under the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, took long hard draws staring deep into the fire.

We ate a solid meal caught from the clear cool water, dashed in garlic with drizzled lemon, and an ice-cold beer after. The flames grew less, embers beaming green, then blue, then red growing faint and fainter to the point of ash and cinders until they burned out.

Later in the night when the wind picked up, we shared a blanket curled tight together in a knot. It’s a memory I will cherish forever, as we lost touch after… I regret your passage into new sunsets and different women, but I’m certainly glad for that time together.

Life is funny and we often miss our chance, to wander till the end with a perfect partner. When the rocks in the road distract the driver, and the tires go flat but you keep on driving…

It’s nobody’s fault and we’re both better off, cause you hopped out I kept going. But I wonder now and then how you’re doing out there. Every once in a while I send up a prayer… Ask the divine favors for you, happy times, lots of love in the room, and the best kind of things where you live your life.

I don’t regret a single moment, cause the memories are here and my thoughts are warmed, I find myself reflecting on the years.. welcoming spring and dreaming of the days, with a pole in my hand and your gentle gaze… sitting next to me in that country place while the catfish bit and the music played.

I doubt I can forget, and I hope you feel the same, but I’ll say it again as I did back then… when we gather up our gear and head to the water, I’ll keep my promise, I’ll meet you in Spring by the river.
